Precast Design Consultants to Present at Conference on Structural Marvels

 

Precast Design Consultants’ (PDC’s) Director Dr. Alfred A. Yee and Associate Director Kang Jianhan have been invited to present PDC’s work on The Sail @ Marina Bay at the Institute of Engineers – Singapore/Institution of Structural Engineer’s (IES/IStructE) Conference on Structural Marvels in December 2010.

The Sail @ Marina Bay is one of the premier residential condominium developments in Singapore. The structure of The Sail is 245 meters (804 ft.) and 70 stories high and is Singapore's tallest condominium/apartment. It is among the top 10 tallest residential buildings in the world. Prior to PDC’s involvement in the project, the architect’s dramatic design was deemed infeasible due to its high slenderness ratio. PDC developed engineering solutions to construct a graceful and resilient structure built within budget and construction schedule.

The IES is the premier engineering institution in Singapore and IStructE is the world’s largest membership organization dedicated to the art and science of structural engineering. Their conference will also feature other current structural projects such as The Marina Bay Sands, The Shanghai Tower, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
