Architect: |
Treanor Architects, Lawrence, Kansas, USA; Burns McDonnell, Kansas City, Missouri, USA |
Project Location: |
Doha, Qatar |
Project Scope: |
Complete structural design documents for tender and construction |
Project Details: |
Project features two sites (female site and male site) each consisting of three 3-story apartments, two 3-story residence halls, one 2-story community center and a utility building. Total area for entire project: 759,000 ft2 |
Challenge: |
To maximize use of precast concrete in structural design for speed of construction, green construction and reduction in cost. To reduce the amount of imported labor required for construction. |
Solution: |
The demising walls between units have been designed as load bearing walls to support composite floor slabs consisting of precast planks with in-situ topping. These walls provide good acoustic isolation and also serve as partitions between the units. |
Results: |
Construction time is projected to be 6 months less than that using conventional cast-in-situ construction. |
Special Considerations: |
All buildings of this project have been registered with the USGBC for Platinum LEED certification. |
